Summer School in Industrial CFD
|
This will be the second running of this popular event
initially sponsored by EPSRC. The course aims to bridge
the knowledge gap faced by new CFD users and to enable
them to use CFD technology with more confidence. The
course is open to masters and PhD students as
well as industrialists. It focuses on the use of
commercial codes and calls on the experience of academics,
industrialists and code vendors who will form the
lecturing body.

Description: |
The objective of the proposed summer school is to address
the needs identified in the EPSRC call for summer schools
on 'Mathematics for Engineers' through the continuation of
the provision of a novel Computational Fluid Dynamics
(CFD) course.
This course will provide understanding of the mathematical
foundation and focus on a detailed overview of the
physical models necessary for research in Chemical, Civil
and Environmental and Mechanical Engineering amongst other
fields of engineering and science. The course will prepare
future users of CFD to make the best possible usage of the
available technology through an emphasis on fluid
mechanics and potential applications of the constitutive
models as well as the understanding of the mathematical
foundations. Each key topic will be taught by a recognised
expert in the field, with the first few days focussing on
the basic mathematics and the other days covering
specialist topics such as turbulence and aerodynamics and
multiphase flow. Two thirds of the course will be lecture
based, and the remaining third will be 'hands-on'
practicals using popular commercial CFD codes. The course
will build on the experience gained at the University of
Nottingham with its Applied CFD course, on last year’s
successful EPSRC Summer School in Industrial CFD and the
CFD@Nottingham Seminar and Lecture Series.
The organisers are currently awaiting decision regarding
funding to be used to offer up to 15 full scholarships to
EPSRC-funded students. Complete information regarding the
technical and financial details are available on request.
These will also be posted on the Group's website soon
(www.nottingham.ac.uk/cfd).
