Fan and blower systems are
ubiquitous and can be found in applications ranging from
engine cooling, industrial and residential HVAC systems,
thermal packaging for electronics, and more.
Configurations range from simple shrouded and unshrouded
axial fans, to mixed flow and centrifugal blowers, which
typically have a casing or volute to direct the flow
downstream of the rotor. Simulation tools are today playing
an important role in the design and analysis of these
systems, with the goal of increasing performance and
reliability while reducing noise and operating costs.
ANSYS 12.0 brings a wealth of tools for fan and blower
design and analysis, building upon the long-standing
strength and reputation of ANSYS software for rotating
machinery applications. This webinar will highlight the
creation of work flows in ANSYS Workbench, incorporating 1-
D and 2-D design tools, both general and turbo-specific
geometry and meshing tools (ANSYS DesignModeler, ANSYS
Meshing, ANSYS BladeModeler, and ANSYS TurboGrid), CFD
Solvers (ANSYS CFX 12.0 and ANSYS FLUENT 12.0), and post-
processing (ANSYS CFD-Post). The workflows permit multiple
analyses to be set up for parametric study, which is ideal
for producing fan curves, examining geometry changes,
combining flow and mechanical stress calculations, and even
performing design optimization. In addition, some of the
latest physical models and methods which are applicable to
fan and blower analysis will be described.
