Description: |
The demand for supersonic vehicles is believed to boost in
the incoming years. This VKI/RTO lecture series reviews
the current state of the art and challenges in high speed
propulsion for both airplanes and space launchers.
Specific lectures will address engine technology based on
modified turbine cycles, pulsed detonation engines, rocket
engines, ram and scram jets. In the light of existing
environmental concerns, dedicated sessions will examine
chemical pollution and noise generation. A thorough
analysis on the requirements to implement a complete
hydrogen technology will be examined. The program will be
completed with a discussion on the experience acquired
over the past years in developing advanced demonstrators
in USA, Europe and Asia. The Directors of this VKI/RTO
Lecture Series are Prof. G. Paniagua of the von Karman
Institute and Dr. J. Steelant of the European Space Agency
ESTEC.
