Proven Engineering Simulation Solutions for the Nuclear
Industry
Wednesday, 23rd March 2011
09.45 - 16.10
The Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) Daresbury, Warrington
Seminar Overview
ANSYS invites you to attend an event specifically for the
Nuclear Industry at the VEC Centre, Daresbury, with guest
speaker Dr. Anthony Robotham, Executive Director, Virtual
Engineering Centre.
Since its inception, ANSYS has been developing simulation
solutions that address engineering and regulatory
requirements of the nuclear industry. Today, solutions from
ANSYS are applied across the entire engineering and design
process of the nuclear power lifecycle: mining and
processing, plant engineering and construction, fuel
systems, thermo-hydraulic systems, balance of power, spent
fuel disposal and regulatory compliance.
Seminar Objective
This seminar will provide an opportunity to learn about
Computer Aided Engineering (CAE methods for the Nuclear
Energy Industry) and network with colleagues from the UK’s
Nuclear Engineering community.
Presentations from industry experts, ANSYS and the VEC will
show how simulation is being used to deliver the insight,
fidelity, robustness and compliance to meet the design
challenges of next generation plant.
One-to-one sessions will be available after the seminar for
you to discuss with an expert how these developments can be
harnessed within your own company. There will also be a
tour of the VEC facilities including the Visualisation
suite and the latest in remote viewing tools.
Topics to be covered include:
Heat Transfer and Thermal Stress
Multiphase CFD
Implicit and Explicit FEA (inc blast/impact)
Fuel and Reactor Assemblies Through to Waste
Storage
Pollutant Dispersion
Fatigue Analysis

The Virtual Engineering Centre is a University of Liverpool
project partially funded by NWDA and ERDF located at the
Daresbury Laboratory of the Science and Technology
Facilities Council. The Virtual Engineering Centre has been
established to assist the North West aerospace sector and
wider industry by providing a focal point for world class
virtual engineering technology, research, education and
best practice with the aim of improving business
performance throughout the supply chain.
