Description: | |
This event will demonstrate how companies like Atkins, Atelier 10, Gruner, IES, M/E Engineering, and Jacobs use simulation to create energy efficient designs. Guest Speaker: Scott Reynolds - M/E Engineering - Leading Sustainability Consultancy Scott will discuss M/E Engineering's use of STAR-CCM+ to help in the design of LEED ® certified and other energy efficient buildings in the areas of fire and smoke modeling, aseptic cleanroom studies and wind dispersion analysis. Each discipline carries with it numerous opportunities to simultaneously improve energy efficiency and human safety. For instance, smoke mitigation systems may be reduced in size by 50% compared to standard ASHRAE calculations. Presenters will use STAR-CCM+ and complex, real-world tunnel geometry to demonstrate the ways to dynamically alter venting configurations to improve air flow. They’ll conclude by introducing the application of advanced building physics for simulating building and environmental flows, including long and shortwave radiation; occupant comfort; complex glazing; humidity; condensation; and external wind loading. |
