Improving the Efficiency of Hydro Turbines with 3D CFD
In this webinar see how 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation technology has been used to accurately assess the efficiency of a Francis hydro turbine. Simulation results will be compared to experimental results for a realistic, full-scale, non-proprietary hydro turbine model made available as part of the Francis-99 workshop series hosted by the Norwegian Hydropower Centre.

In just about every part of the world, hydro power offers a reliable source for contributing clean and renewable energy to the electricity grid, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, sources such as the recent Hydropower Vision report from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) predict that significant capacity can be obtained from multiple sources.

Further, when assessing the relative influence of specific variables on the potential for hydropower growth, the No. 1 factor listed among those exerting the greatest influence was “technology innovation” (in order to increase efficiency and reduce cost).
