Description: | |
The series of Conferences on Bluff Body Wakes and Vortex-Induced Vibrations provides a stimulating and constructive forum for researchers specializing in the field of bluff body flows. The formal sessions consist of single sessions including invited talks with ample time outside the formal sessions for participants to meet in a convivial atmosphere. The Conference on Bluff Body Wakes and Vortex-Induced Vibrations (BBVIV3) will follow the spirit set in the 1992 IUTAM Symposium on Bluff-Body Wakes, Dynamics and Instabilities, held in Göttingen, Germany, in the Forum on Advances in the Understanding of Bluff Body Wakes and Vortex-Induced Vibrations (BBVIV1), which was part of the 1998 ASME-FED Summer Meeting in Washington, DC, USA, and more recently the IUTAM Symposium on Bluff Body Wakes and Vortex-Induced Vibrations (BBVIV2) held in Marseille in 2000. The Conference will take place over four days, starting after lunch on Tuesday, 17 December 2002 and ending at lunchtime on Friday, 20 December 2002. It will consist of single plenary sessions with invited lectures (40 minutes), oral presentations (20 minutes), poster presentations (3 minutes), and discussions on special topics. SCOPE OF CONFERENCE Papers on all aspects of fluids mechanics may be presented and published in the conference proceedings. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed under the coordination of a scientific advisory panel. The conference will keep the tradition of inviting internationally renowned keynote speakers to the conference. BBVIV3 will focus on aspects of the dynamics of vortex structures found in the wakes of fixed and oscillating bluff bodies, including vortices resulting from shear layer convective instability and near-wake absolute instability. Experimental, computational and analytical studies will be presented on topics such as the following (not exhaustive):
Dynamics and instabilities of vortex structures Aspects of vortex-induced vibration of bluff bodies The three-dimensional structure of wakes from nominally two-dimensional bluff bodies Mode changes in the wakes of two- and three- dimensional bodies Bodies in unsteady/oscillatory flows The relation between wake structure and the force experienced by a bluff |
