INTRODUCTION Moving Boundaries 2003 is the seventh international conference in the series on Computational Modelling of Free and Moving Boundaries. The meeting will look at the computational modelling of a continuum, where the positions of its borders or interphase boundaries have to be determined as part of the solution. The transient character leads to so-called moving boundary problems, and the steady one to free boundary problems. Lame, Clapeyron, Neumann and Stefan established the analytical bases in the 19th Century. In honour of Stefan's work in this field, the spectrum of problems with displaceable boundaries is nowadays commonly known as 'Stefan Problems'. The computational modelling of such problems began in the mid-fifties and has evolved into a scientific field with thousands of bibliographical references to date. One of the main objectives of the conference is the establishment of interdisciplinary links between scientists and engineers who tackle similar problems from different research perspectives, and scientists who work on different applications but use similar numerical methods. The Moving Boundaries Conference Series first started in Southampton, UK (1991), continuing in Milan, Italy (1993), Bled, Slovenia (1995), Ghent, Belgium (1997), Ljubljana, Slovenia (1999) and Lemnos,Greece (2001). Each meeting included invited papers by acknowledged experts. WHO SHOULD ATTEND Scientists and Engineers involved in the following: 1 Physical and mathematical systems of phase change phenomena between solids, liquids and gases; phase distribution in multiphase systems, instabilities and waves. 2 Numerical methods for free and moving boundary problems on the basis of finite differences, finite elements, finite volumes, boundary elements and spectral methods. 3 Other applications within science, engineering and medicine such as, lava dynamics, casting techniques and computational support of cryosurgery. LOCATION Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico, the third largest city in the state with a population of 60,000. Although the city's history spans almost 400 years, Santa Fe is relatively unknown. Its attractions include a rocky mountain climate and geography and the cultural diversity that is created by the mix of Native American, Hispanic and European traditions. The beauty of the surrounding areas, which includes vast acres of National Forest, can be enjoyed for its outdoor recreational activities as well as its beautiful scenery and interesting places to visit. The importance of art in the city is also significant, Santa Fe has one of the country's largest art markets, where theatre, dance, and music play an important role. CONFERENCE VENUE The conference will be held at the 'Hotel Santa Fe'. As Santa Fe's only native American-owned hotel, it offers both comfort and culture within the city's world-renowned historic district, situated peacefully on the rim of downtown. It occupies three acres adorned by native American sculpture and totems, wildflowers and privacy. Specially negotiated accommodation rates will be offered to delegates attending the conference. EXHIBITION FACILITIES There will be mini-exhibition space available for organisations wishing to exhibit hardware, software, products, services and literature relating to the theme of the conference. Further details are available from the conference secretariat. CALL FOR PAPERS Papers are invited on the topics outlined and others falling within the scope of the meeting. Abstracts of no more than 300 words should be submitted *as soon as possible.* Abstracts should clearly state the purpose, results and conclusions of the work to be described in the final paper. Final acceptance will be based on the full-length paper, which if accepted, must be presented at the conference. Each submitted paper is subject to a separate registration. We strongly encourage the submission of abstracts electronically. The language of the conference will be English.
