In this webinar, we will discuss the 3D modeling capabilities
available in CONVERGE CFD software for battery applications.
We will showcase coupled fluid-solid conjugate heat transfer
(CHT) solutions to study battery thermal management. These
CHT simulations can incorporate a wide array of battery
models, from simplistic equivalent circuit and localized
short-circuit models to more detailed electric potential
solutions with electrochemistry. By coupling the SAGE
detailed chemistry solver with battery simulations, we will
model the complex problem of battery thermal runaway and
associated vent gas generation. Finally, we will present
modeling approaches for other relevant physics, including
Lagrangian particle modeling for battery vent ejecta,
solidification/melting models for phase-change materials, and
fluid-structure interaction modeling for battery swelling via
coupled simulations with the Abaqus FEA solver.
