Description: |
Turbine tip clearance improvement, in spite of known challenges, continues to present one of the most powerful means for enhancement of gas turbine engine performance. The aim of these lectures is to present a state-of-the-art assessment of the on-going activities in this domain including a review of multidisciplinary design challenges, development of tip clearance improvement techniques and means of aerodynamic suppression of tip leakage. Significant attention will be given to heat transfer and cooling of the blade tip area and a review of advances in experimental and numerical studies will be provided.
