Description: |
This course will give a comprehensive state of the art on worldwide research and technology development during the past fifteen years aimed at the development of unconventional commercial and general aviation aircraft concepts. The lectures will deal with topics such as low-noise and low-pollution aircraft, radical low-drag aerodynamics and advanced wing configurations, flying wings and blended wing-body designs, alternative fuels, power plant configurations and integration, simplified concepts for aircraft components to be favoured for low-cost operation, and more. The integration of new concepts into the overall design will be emphasized. The lecturers will be inspiring, experienced and reputed designers and researchers, giving in-depth but non-specialised treatments. The audience will be formed mainly by aircraft design engineers, researchers interested in multidisciplinary design and technology integration, and students with some experience in preliminary aircraft design.
