Description: |
Four turbulent flow cases have been selected for detailed investigations. They are all characterized by posessing properties challinging to the turbulence modelers, and they have all been very well documented experimentally. The international community of turbulence modelers is invited to compute the properties of these flow fields using different different turbulence models and different numerical methods.
The cases considered are:
- Wall-mounted two-dimensional hump with oscillatory zero-mass-flux jet or suction through a slot (NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA, USA)
- Flow over an axisymmetric three-dimensional hill (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA, USA)
- Slanted jets in cross-flow (Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden)
- Multiple-impinging jets: flow and heat transfer (Delft University of Technology, Delft, The netherlands)
During the workshop all the solutions are evaluated and compared. The idea is to identify the turbulence models that work the best in the different types of flow fields, and to provide an incentive to improve on the models.
