Quality and Reliability of CFD Simulations II: Industrial Challenges
This seminar brings together users of CFD to examine issues of accuracy, reliability and trust in the context of practical applications in engineering design, the environment, and health and safety management. The underlying theme is the useful exploitation of CFD in the face of uncertainty and complexity. The presentations will illustrate how to reduce uncertainty in CFD and how to derive most benefit from the technology, as well as raising awareness of current quality and trust initiatives.

Description: | |
Industrial, environmental and academic applications of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are increasingly relied upon to provide qualitative and quantitative data for design, safety assessment and understanding of complex flow systems. Direct validation against comprehensive test data is often impractical. The level of confidence which can be placed on the results of CFD is therefore an important and current issue in engineering simulation. This seminar brings together users of CFD to examine issues of accuracy, reliability and trust in the context of practical applications in engineering design, the environment, and health and safety management. The underlying theme is the useful exploitation of CFD in the face of uncertainty and complexity. The presentations will illustrate, through case studies, how to reduce uncertainty in CFD and how to derive most benefit from the technology, as well as raising awareness of current initiatives to enhance the quality and trust of CFD simulation. This is the second joint meeting on this theme co-organised by NAFEMS and ERCOFTAC. It follows the successful first meeting held on 9th March 2004.
