Description: | |
This EU sponsored course (EUA4X*) is intended to provide the state-of-the-art review of the on-going activities in noise prediction. The emphasis will be put on recent theoretical and numerical developments, characterized by different levels of approximation: CAA direct methods based on Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS), Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Detached Eddy Simulation (DES); URANS solution of the Navier-Stokes equations; Hybrid methods based on CFD for sound production combined with linearized methods for far field sound radiation (Lighthill and Ffowcs-Williams analogies, Kirchhoff integral method, ...). These methods will be applied to test cases (like jet noise, rotor noise), and compared with experimental results. The test cases considered are chosen to illustrate the abilities of the different approaches, allowing an evaluation of their performances and applicability, but without being restricted to any particular field. |
