Gaseous detonation and the resulting blast waves pose significant risks to both
people and facilities. Accurate modelling of these phenomena is crucial for
safety assessments and risk mitigation. This full-time PhD project is funded by
AWE (Atomic Weapons Establishment), in collaboration with Kingston University
London, to tackle some complexities and advance the understanding of detonation
and blast waves from fuel combustion in tunnels. The research project will
involve the development and implementation of combustion and fluid dynamics
models, and numerical approaches, within the frame of computational Fluid
dynamics (CFD). The project will also involve CFD simulations and validation of
the models using experimental data. A general understanding and familiarity with
CFD is a requirement for this role. Details of the project can be discussed upon
request.
